The Berwick Curling Club offers Junior Curling for area youth from ages 6 to 19.
Junior curling offers children and youth a fun and engaging way to develop teamwork, strategic thinking, and sportsmanship. It's a great opportunity to build physical skills, make new friends, and enjoy a sport that combines physical activity with mental challenge. Curling can be a life-long sport!
Beginning in October and ending in late March, the program is held on Mondays from 5:30 to 7:00 pm (generally new and younger curlers) and Thursdays from 4:00 to 6:00 pm ( generally age 10+ or curling for 2+ years).
2024-25 Season
The first night of the 2024-25 junior curling program is Monday, October 21, 2024.
Curling will take place on Mondays from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m.. Monday will generally be for new curlers and curlers under 11 years of age. Thursday evenings will be for curlers 11 years and older, and more competitive juniors. However, if spaces on Monday become limited due to coach availability, we may ask younger or newer curlers to switch to Thursdays.
Program Fees for 2024-25
- Junior Program $110 (regular new or returning junior curler)
- Junior Member $150 (someone who’s been approved to curl in both Junior teams and adult teams)
New curlers can register and attend the first two weeks before paying the program fee. This allows them an opportunity to try the first couple of sessions before committing to the full season.

Equipment
Junior Curlers will need:
- A clean pair of sneakers with rubber soles (not hard, smooth plastic - eg. Sketchers, WalMart sneakers)
- Helmet - bike, hockey or curling headband. Please note that helmets are mandatory for those under 12 years of age. Learn more: Nova Scotia Curling Association Helmet publication Helmets are strongly encouraged for curlers 12 years of age and older.
- Gripper for the curler’s non-siding foot. These can be purchased at Winning Edge Sports in the Kings Mutual Century Centre, at The Curling Store in Dartmouth, or online.
Parent Volunteers:
We require parents to volunteer in some capacity through the season in order to support the junior program. There are a number of ways you can support the program:
- Eyes on the ice - This supports coaches while on the ice by ensuring the junior curlers are following the safety rules. Completing coaching certification is not required. We’re looking for at least 2-3 parents/night, especially on Monday nights.
- Run the warm-up session or videos before the ice time
- Bonspiels
- Canteen during events
- Fundraising support
- Joining the Junior Program committee
- Check for shoes, appropriate attire
- Switching up rocks after the junior program is done (this could be combined with the “eyes on the ice” role)
Any adults volunteering will be required to complete criminal records check and child abuse registry clearance prior to helping on the ice.
